Description

By following this tutorial, you will learn how to:
1. Insert and move parts in an assembly
2. Use the Mate tool in assembly
3. Create an exploded view on assembly
4. Animate explode and collapse an assembly

For the purpose of this handout, please download “5-1.SLDPRT” and “5-2.SLDPRT” to be used in this tutorial.

Insert and move parts in an assembly

1 Open an assembly file from the UNSW templates tab.
2 Select part 5-1 from the Open documents list.
3 Click in the graphics area to place part 5-1.

Note: The first part selected will be the stationary part in the assembly.
4 Click the Insert Components button in the Assembly tab.
5 Select part 5-2 from the Open documents list.
6 Click the graphics area to place part 52.
7 Click the Move Component button in the Assembly tab.
8 Click and hold the mouse on part 5-2 and drag to move the part in the assembly.

Click OK to confirm.

Use the Mate tool in assembly

1 Click on the Mate button in the Assembly tab.
2 Select the outside right face of part 5-2 as shown.
3 Select the corresponding inside face of part 5-1 as shown.

Click OK to confirm.

Click Close on the Mate sidebar.
4 Change view orientation to the Top View.

5 Click part 5-2 and drag to move the part.
6 Click on the Mate button.

Select the outside top face of part 5-2 as shown.

Select the inside top face of part 5-1 as shown.

Click OK to confirm.
7 Select the shoulder on part 5-2 as shown.
8 Click the corresponding surface on part 5-1 as shown.

Click OK to confirm.

Create an exploded view on assembly

1 Click on the Exploded View button in the Assembly tab.
2 Click on part 5-1
3 Choose the direction to explode in by clicking the Z axis.
4 Set the distance to 200mm.

Click Apply and then Done.
5 Click on part 5-1 again.

Select the X axis.
6 Set the distance to 200mm.

Click Apply and then Done.

Click OK to confirm.

Animate explode and collapse an assembly

1 Right click on the assembly name at the top of the design tree.

2 Click on the Collapse option.
3 Right click on the assembly name at the top of the design tree.

4 Click on the Animate Explode option.
